Kireka - Monday, June 14:
Residents of Acholi quarters, in Kireka, Kampala, have entered into a partnership with the Uganda Police and Umeme to ensure all electricity connections in the area are legitimate.

The Uganda Police Force has set up a National Task Force to curb the theft of electricity.The Special Task Force has been constituted together with Umeme, and will "oversee, monitor and review progress of the campaign to reduce energy losses through theft" officials said yesterday.

Entebbe district will be the first to benefit from Umeme's policy to decentralize Meter Reading in Kampala and Greater Kampala regions. The Strategic move will save the Power Distribution company close to UGX 100,000,000/= in expenses on Meter Reading for Entebbe district alone. This is exclusive of many other intangible benefits accruing to the project.
