Umeme has today launched a campaign to discourage customer disconnections as a first response over non-payment of bill arrears.
Announcing the start of the initiative at Rwenzori House this morning, Umeme Chief Operations Officer Florence Nsubuga said Umeme was making all efforts to avoid having to disconnect non-paying customers in order to limit widespread inconveniences.

Umeme informs its customers that the increased load-shedding you are experiencing is due to decreased power supply from power generation companies leading to a shortfall of 130MW at peak from the generation companies.

Umeme has disconnected the power of over 13,000 customers in Kabalagala, a Kampala suburb after discovering that over 70% of the power connections are illegal.
The area was found with illegal power connections, poor internal wiring and illegal underground network.

December 6, 2011 UMEME has altered the load-shedding structure to prioritise electricity supply for Domestic Customers and Small & Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), in order to increase availability of supply for more customers during the Christmas season.
Domestic Customers will now enjoy uninterrupted electricity for two nights in a row broken by a load-shedding interval of only 12 hours on the third night.
