UMEME extends Bulk Metering Solution to Bugolobi market
 


In a bid to provide equal opportunities and  fair competition among its customers, improve service delivery and provide  electricity at affordable rates;

UMEME Ltd has invested over 8O million Uganda shillings  to upgrade the status of small scale industries in Lira who normally operate at  code 20 Tariff with higher rates to code 30 with comparatively lower rates usually  enjoyed by heavy industries metered at high voltage.

UMEME Ltd has also financed  the upgrading of over 1km route length of 3-phase network, installed a 500kva  distribution transformer to support an existing 200kva transformer, this  increases the total capacity to 700kva and a 11kV metering transformer complete  with bulk supply KVA digital was installed at the substation.

Speaking at the official launch  UMEME's Area Manager for Northern Uganda Ms.  Muhanga Elizabeth thanked the members of the Association for coming on board  with the bulk metering project and reminded them that it was a win-win  situation for both the company and the Association for it is going to enable  them reduce their electricity costs with the new code 20 tariff giving them a  competitive advantage with Mukwano industries which production is on a large  scale plus help the company cut down on commercial losses

The Lira RDC Mrs. Paco Oto  Joan thanked UMEME for the work they have done to benefit the maize millers of  lira who are the main food source for the people in Northern   Uganda, Kenya  and Sudan.  She also expressed great admiration for the work that the company has done  since it was established noting that they had inherited a badly tainted image and  have worked hard to change the negative perception that company has.

The bulk metering  innovation has previously been implemented for a group of Millers in Kisenyi; a  Kampala suburb, whose power bills reduced by over 50%, Bugolobi Market traders,  Makerere University Kampala among others.
