Step    1:

Having finished construction of a house, a prospective customer must hire a competent wiring contractor, LICENSED by Umeme to complete the electrical wiring in the house. The customer will receive a genuine Wiring Certificate.

The prospective customer then approaches the nearest Umeme office within his/her location for application
The following are documentation is required:
          -    Passport size photograph
          -    Wiring Certificate
          -    TIN number

The customer will be given an application form to insert details such as name, zone, and type of service; whether domestic, commercial or otherwise, telephone number etc.The passport size photo and the Wiring Certificate will be attached to this form.The customer is also required to sign a declaration form at the back of the application form. This form states the conditions of supply. The prospective client will then be required to pay an inspection fee of Shs. 41,300-Domestic, 47,200-Commercial, 88,500-three phase, and 118,000-KVA.Where Way-Leaves are required, the letter of consent will be issued and both the person authorizing and the prospective customer will be required to sign on it.
         
       

Step    2:

The installation inspector/surveyor will visit the site to verify whether the wiring conforms to the requirements of the company. The Surveyor will be  required to fill a D-20 form at the site and he checks the earthing and  installation and also recommends the materials to be used.
         
       

Step    3:

Once the installation is found to be in conformity with the required standards, internal processing of the customer's application will be effected. After verification of the customer's application, he will be required to pay a capital contribution of Shs. 98,000(no pole service) and 326,000(1 pole service) and also 100,000 as security deposit. An Account number will be issued in respect of the payments.
         
       

Step    4:

Planning and requisition of materials based on full payment will start to be processed.
         
       

Step    5:

After everything has been done, customers will be connected in a first in first out basis.

Please note that your new connection process should take you at least five days to have your new house on electricity supply.
