Umeme, Uganda's leading distributor for electricity has shown an interest in sports development in Uganda by announcing a USD$10,000 support package to the Uganda Olympics Committee in air travel expenses. Uganda will be sending a contingent of sportsmen and women to participate in the forth coming London 2012 Olympic Games starting on 12th July 2012. The team is expected to participate in athletics, badminton, weight lifting, boxing and swimming.
The National Olympic Committee (NOC) is seeking to raise 200 million shillings to facilitate the country's representation at the games and at final trials scheduled to take place in West Africa ahead of the opening of the games. While the committee will receive support from the Government of Uganda and Her Majesty's Government they recognise that the assistance expected will not cover their full requirements.

The Ugx 25,000,000/= will be paid to British Airways directly to ensure that the seats are booked ahead of time.
Umeme is the first corporate company that has come out with clear support towards the 2012 London Olympics.
