Umeme, Uganda's leading distributor for electricity has again shown an
interest in sports development in Uganda by sponsoring a journalist to
travel with the Uganda Olympics team for purposes of keeping Ugandans up
to date with the London 2012 Olympics.
Hussein Ahmed, renown sports journalist and anchor in Uganda working for
Sanyu FM will travel with the Ugandan Olympic team to cover the games.
Hussein, who is also the Vice President for Uganda Sports Press
Association, is seasoned in covering big sporting events as he also
covered the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and his hour on hour
updates helped keep Ugandans updated with the happenings in South Africa.
"We are once again is proud to be in the position to make this contribution to the Ugandan sports by sending Hussein along with the team travelling to the London 2012 Olympic Games." Said Charles Chapman, Umeme Managing Director while speaking at the handover event at Rwenzori House.
"A few days ago we announced a USD$10,000 support package to the Uganda Olympics Committee in air travel expenses. We are demonstrating commitment to play our role in the economic and social development of Uganda by facilitating the media to make hour on hour updates on the Olympic games to Ugandans." He added.
Sanyu FM will air updates on the Olympic games three times a day. Hussein will also be sending the updates to the USPA fraternity who will in turn relay the updates to their readers and listeners on all sports bulletins in Uganda. Uganda will be sending a contingent of sportsmen and women to participate in the forth coming London 2012 Olympic Games starting on 12th July 2012. The team is expected to participate in Athletics, Badminton, Paralympics, Tennis and swimming.
Once again, Umeme is the first corporate company that has come out with clear support towards the 2012 London Olympics.
