UMEME
Uganda's main electricity distribution company has today donated over 36 liters
of blood in a blood donation drive to the survivors of the kyandondo rugby club
and Ethiopia
village bombings. This drive is the first of a number of donation exercises
that will be held at the Company's offices in Kampala and the respective regions of their
business operations.
"We were
deeply saddened by the events on the night of July 11, a day that was full of
joy and happiness was turned into sorrow and misery. As a corporate we felt
that we could assist some of the injured still in hospital by giving blood. UMEME
employees were eager to do this and quickly mobilized themselves to stand with
fellow Ugandans that had been affected."
Says Charlotte Kemigyisha UMEME'S Corporate Communications Manager.
The
Uganda Red Cross society welcomed the kind gesture of UMEME and appealed to all
Ugandans to donate blood if they can not only to benefit the survivors of the
bomb blast but also counter the low deficit of blood that the Nation is
facing.
"We are grateful to UMEME for
their donation for it will go along way to add life to many Ugandans who are in
desperate need for it"
UMEME is
the first corporate organization to come out and respond to the needs of those
affected by the bomb blasts that shocked the nation.
